  1. Have you consider create a campus blog for the Fine Arts Dept., students, and parents that way you'll have open communication with the parents can give feedback on various events that are occurring at the campus. You could also create a Fine Arts newsletter and maybe have a parent create it therefore he/or she could contact other parents about putting their input into the newsletter. I hope that helps. Good Luck.

Please comment on my blog. Thank you

  2. The blog is a good idea! Cordelia, I think this is such a good way to show the value of a strong Fine Arts Department. It will also generate some good PR for you and the school. How do you plan to select the students involved?

  3. Thank you both for your comments, support, and queries!!! @FloCC41, I have not considered creating a blog for the FA department. I have no clue why not. I am accustomed to doing a newsletter and my project calls for me to continue using it. However, I think the addition of a blog would be phenomenal. Why? Because students frequently neglect to give parents written communications from school. AWESOME!

@Sandra: I will be certaint o capitalize on the PR aspect of this project. Particularly with all of the budget cuts........... The audition process for the Choir will be open to all 3rd - 5th graders who meet academic and behavioral criteria at the beginning of the school year, are interested and enthusiastic about participating, and have parental consent. Students will sing a song I taught them all (in class) with a partner to make sure they aren't tooooooo nervous. A familiar panel of teacher-judges will make the selections based on that. Adding choreography, costuming, or any other panache' will be icing on the cake. Based ont he students who are selected, I will then select 3 third graders, 3 fourth graders, and 3 fifth graders (and their parents) to represent the sample group.
    Thanks for the insight!!!!

Btw, I attended an "Ethics In Leadership" workshop on your campus Wednesday, facilitated by Dr. Coleman and Dr. Rowry. It is always good being back 'home'......!

  5. I like your idea. Since it involves parents maybe you can get them more involved by having a choir mom or dad. These are volunteer parents (approved by our district of course) that go with your choir to the different outings. They can help fundraise and chaperone any event you have. I think some of the parents would appreciate being asked to get involved.

Excellent question to inquire. It seems that more and more schools are cutting out extracurricular programs in grade levels below 7th just to savage the budget, but what about the kids? I wonder would I have enjoyed school as much as I did if there was nothing else to do but school? More than likely I would have not develop an interest in teaching.
